Three Stationary Pumps Deployed to Minimize Flooding in Daan Mogot

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the provincial government has prepared several strategic measures to control flooding that has long affected the Daan Mogot area in Cengkareng, West Jakarta.

"As a short-term measure, we will install three stationary pumps here at KM 13, 13A, and 13B,"

The first step is the deployment of three stationary pumps at KM 13, 13A, and 13B, replacing the previous reliance on mobile pumps.

The statement was made by Pramono while he was inspecting the Daan Mogot pump station construction site in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, on Tuesday (2/3).

"As a short-term measure, we will install three stationary pumps here at KM 13, 13A, and 13B. Previously, this area only had mobile pumps with a capacity of around 1,000 liters per second," Pramono stated.

The stationary pump has a capacity of around 7,000 liters per second. Pramono shared that the Daan Mogot KM 13 area has long been prone to flooding because the road is positioned lower than the Mookervart River.

This topographical condition causes inundation even when rainfall is not particularly extreme.

"We hope this short-term solution will address the flooding problem in Daan Mogot KM 13," he added.

Pramono also confirmed that the Jakarta government will soon complete the unfinished pump house in the area and aims to finish the entire water management system in Daan Mogot by 2027.

Pramono also instructed the Bina Marga Agency to study the construction of a flyover spanning more than two kilometers that would connect the Pesing area and pass through flood-prone sections of Daan Mogot to keep traffic moving when the Mookervart River overflows.

"For the medium term, I am considering whether a flyover is needed here, possibly more than two kilometers long. I will ask the Bina Marga Agency to recalculate the plan," he shared.

During the inspection, Pramono also reaffirmed his commitment to continuing flood mitigation efforts in Jakarta through the normalization of the Ciliwung River, Cakung Lama River, and Krukut River. Within the next two weeks, the provincial government, together with the ATR/BPN Ministry, is set to finalize land acquisition payments and distribute land certificates to affected residents.

Daan Mogot Road is one of the roads that is frequently flooded during the rainy season, with water levels reaching up to 40 centimeters and often causing lengthy traffic congestion.

Flooding along the road is caused by several factors, including prolonged heavy rainfall, suboptimal and garbage-clogged drainage, low-lying and concave land contours at several points, and existing pumps that have yet to operate optimally.

The pump house construction aims to strengthen flood control by reducing flood discharge within the Cengkareng Polder and Kapuk Poglar Polder systems, particularly in flood-prone areas along Jalan Daan Mogot, Kedaung Kali Angke Urban Village, and Cengkareng Timur Urban Village.

This development is expected to reinforce the polder system, accelerate water discharge, and reduce flooding at vulnerable locations.
